Founded in 2020 in Cologne, Vytal emerged from a simple insight: disposable food packaging was piling up in trash cans—and something had to change. Its three founders—Dr. Tim Breker, Dr. Fabian Barthel, and Sven Witthöft—came together, driven by the same frustration and a shared vision for a cleaner future. What they created was Vytal: a digital, deposit-free reusable packaging system that is convenient, sustainable, and scalable.
Their breakthrough came in 2020 when Fabian joined the team and Vytal appeared on Germany’s “Shark Tank”—winning both investment and widespread attention. From there, their trajectory accelerated.
Today, Vytal stands as Europe’s largest smart reusable packaging network, partnering with over 7,000 locations across more than 20 countries. Its system simplifies reuse with full digital tracking, rapid return rates, and no deposit—making reuse feel effortless.
In 2024, Vytal became the go-to provider for events, servicing major festivals, EURO 2024 fan zones, and even the German pavilion at the Olympics. That same year, they expanded into the USA by acquiring a local reuse company (TURN), bringing technology, talent, and operations stateside.
